संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिकामा संसदको तल्लो सदन हाउस अफ रिप्रिजेन्टेटिभ्स लगातार तीन दिनसम्म सभामुखविहीन भएको छ।
बिहीबार सभामुख चुन्न भएको मतदानमा पनि कुनै उम्मेदवारले निर्वाचित हुन चाहिने २१८ सांसदको समर्थन पाउन नसकेपछि संसद सभामुखविहीन भएको हो।
सभामुख छान्न बिहीबार पाँच पटक मतदान भएको थियो। अमेरिकाको तल्लो सदनमा प्रतिपक्षी दल रिपब्लिकनको बहुमत छ। गत नोभेम्बरमा भएको मिड टर्म चुनावमा रिपब्लिकनले २२२ र सत्तारूढ डेमोक्र्याट पार्टीले २१२ सिट जितेका थिए।
संसदको सभामुख चयन हुन २१८ जना सांसदको भोट पाउनुपर्छ। रिपब्लिकन पार्टीसँग नयाँ सभामुख चुन्न पर्याप्त मत रहे पनि आन्तरिक विवादले नयाँ सभामुख चुन्न सकस भएको द न्युयोर्क टाइम्सले उल्लेख गरेको छ।
रिपब्लिकन पार्टीबाट सभामुख बन्न केभिन मकार्थी दौडमा छन्। उनलाई पूर्वराष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्पको समर्थन छ। मंगलबार, बुधबार र बिहीबार सभामुख छान्न ११ पटकसम्म मतदान हुँदा पनि मकार्थीले आवश्यक २१८ मत ल्याउन सकेनन्। रिपब्लिकन पार्टीका २० जना उग्र दक्षिणपन्थी सांसदले मत नदिएपछि मकार्थी सभामुख बन्न असफल भएका हुन्।
ती २० जना सांसदले मकार्थीको विचारधारा भरपर्दो नभएकाले उनीलाई समर्थन गर्न नसकिने बताएका छन्। डेमोक्र्याट पार्टीका २१२ जना सांसद भने आफ्ना उम्मेदवारका पक्षमा एकमत छन्।
अमेरिकामा राष्ट्रपतिपछि दोस्रो वरीयतामा सभामुख हुन्छन्। संसदमा पार्टीको बहुमत हुँदाहुँदै सभामुख छान्न नसकेपछि रिपब्लिकनहरूले आगामी दुई वर्ष संसद कसरी चलाउँछन् भन्ने प्रश्न उठेको छ। सभामुखको चयन भएर सांसदहरूले सपथ नलिएसम्म अमेरिकी संसदले आफ्ना काम-कारबाही अघि बढाउन सक्दैन।
अमेरिकाको संसदमा पहिलो पटक भएको मतदानले सभामुख चुन्न नसकेको घटना एक सय वर्षपछि दोहोरिएको हो। सन् १९२३ मा पनि हाउस अफ रिप्रिजेन्टेटिभ्सले ९ पटक मतदान गरेर सभामुख छान्न सकेको थियो।
नयाँ सभामुख चुन्न शुक्रबार पनि संसदको बैठक डाकिएको छ।
